How a Grid Connect Solar System Works
A solar panel (photovoltaic module) is an interconnected assembly of solar cells. Solar cells use light energy from the sun to generate clean renewable energy. The cells must be connected electrically to one another and to the rest of the system to form a Solar PV System.
In a grid connect solar system the electricity generated from the solar panels feeds directly into your household through an inverter which changes the solar DC voltage into AC voltage. Your house will then have a dual electricity supply where it automatically draws on the solar power first and then the electricity grid second. If there is insufficient solar power is available like at night or rainy days, you will then be drawing power from the electricity grid.
During the day, if your solar system is generating more solar power than your house requires then the surplus electricity feeds through your electricity meter and back into the electricity grid. This surplus power is recorded by your electricity meter and you will receive a solar credit on your power bill known as the feed-in tariff.
Grid Connect Solar Systems work very efficiently and are designed to last for many years. You are helping to reduce carbon by producing clean renewable energy from the sun. The only maintenance required is keeping the solar panels free from excessive dust build up which can affect the performance. In most instances the panels self clean whenever it rains.
Using quality components and having your system professionally designed and installed by Metalcraft Solar will provide you with an excellent return on your investment by either eliminating or substantially lowering your electricity bills for many years. Depending on the size of your system and your electricity consumption you may also be able to make an income from your solar system.
